First Flowers of Spring, Vancouver 2012

 So far, it's been a very strange year; a mixture of warm and cold. Today, once again, the early morning clouds descend on "Couvertown". The gulls, have just begun their daily game of tag; the crows their acrobatic mating display.We are all wrapped up in a cellular blanket of rain, so still cocooned and safe from the ever recurring violence of the outside world, but nonetheless feeling just a little gloomy and blue. I hadn't intended on posting any photographs of the spring flowers this year, thinking you had all probably had your fill. But, then I noticed that many of you have been clicking on my post of last year and I was reminded that often at this time we all need a reminder--
SPRING OFFICIALLY STARTS THIS WEEK.
So here they are.

This fellow; and the pansies above, really don't mind the cold,
 the damp, or the gloom;
 so they both stick around for most of the year.

 Snow-drops are usually finished.

As are the crocus.

The mini-daffodils are usually still hiding behind leaves and twigs.
The large size daffodils, like tulips; should,  normally,  be just starting to peek up out of the ground.

Cherry, honey-suckle, plum and the ornamental Japanese Cherry (bottom 3 images)should not yet be in bloom.

The Azalea and Rhododendron
 are early;

as is this fellow; which normally doesn't appear until late summer.
